IBM has launched a new feature for IBM Sametime with the release of version 8.5.2: IBM Sametime Unified Telephony Lite Client. This will extend the Samtime client with a SIP softphone, enabling a user to start and receive phone conversations from his Sametime client. This is not limited to other users running the client, but can be used to call other VOIP clients, telephone lines and cell phones. All thanks to the integration with existing SIP telephone exchanges. Video is also supported when the user has a webcam. Another great asset is the easy setup of conference calls with multiple parties.
This will make communication easier for your users, since they will be reachable via Sametime on different channels. Because of the VOIP integration, it can even reduce your telephony costs.
If you already own an existing Sametime Standard infrastructure and a supported SIP PBX, the required changes for implementing the IBM Sametime Unified Telephony Lite Client are limited. This makes sure the client can be up and running in a fair amount of time.
